>Ben Zhu Recap
>Ben Zhu, owner of Nucleus, gave a great presentation on the importance of understanding that, as artists, we are also inherently entrepreneurs. Ben stressed that everything we do is reflection of how we might approach working relationships and projects, and to make sure to always put our best work out in the world. He said to think of our art as a commodity, and ourselves as a brand. According to Ben, some keys to success are:
– association with other good brands (i.e., Art Center)
– reliability and consistency
– underpromising and overdelivering
– commitment and accountability
Nucleus has an opening this Saturday at 7p for their new show, Curiouser and Curiouser: Inspired by ‘Alice In Wonderland‘. As well as a panel/artist signing with the Tim Burton’s ‘Alice in Wonderland’ artists on Saturday March 13, 2:00PM – 6:00PM.
In additional, Ben wanted me to let you know Nucleus has three upcoming shows in 2011 which are open calls for submissions: a Harry Potter tribute show, a Studio Ghibli tribute show, and a ninja art show.
In the art exercise/contest, Ben chose a piece by Jocelyn Liang as the work that best expressed the prompt word, “stripes”. The prize was a $25 Nucleus gift card. Congratulations, Jocelyn!
Thanks again to Ben, and to everyone who came out to hear him!
