Mentor of the Day: Griselda Sastrawinata
We had the pleasure of meeting Griselda Sastrawinata this past November at the CTN Expo as we spent 3 days as table neighbors!
Griselda Sastrawinata was born in Indonesia, graduated from Pasadena Art Center College of Design (ACCD) as valedictorian, and is currently working as a visual development artist at DreamWorks.
Griselda has a strong background as a visual development artist — characters, costumes, backgrounds, environments, colors, lighting, and props. Her strengths lie in traditional drawing and painting with pencil, pen, ink, gouache, acrylic, and oil. In addition she is highly trained in digital painting with Photoshop and is proficient with After Effects, Illustrator, and Maya. She also has a passion for fashion – check out her amazing shoe paintings on her blog!
Griselda used to be an upper level instructor at Art Center College of Design and is now joining Motivarti as a mentor. She is looking for 2 highly motivated individuals who are eager who recognize the value of getting to work with an industry professional and are ready to put in the time and effort to get into the big studios!
In fact, Griselda has already set up a 10-week plan for her mentees that include more than just refining your portfolio:
1 — meet and greet. make a plan and agree on what to do for the next 9 weeks
2-6 — refining portfolio — at the end, i would like to see 3 visual development pieces, each has vis-dev process from thumbnail to layout and finish paintings, and props sheets. (Same with characters if there’s any)
7 — resume and cover letter
8 — interview
9 — negotiation
10 — final review of portfolio, resume, and cover letter.
So if you feel like you’ve got a strong foundation and want that extra kick to get a leg up, Griselda is the mentor for you! Be sure to check out her profile page for all the details.
