Fall 2013 Motivarti Mentorships

Fall2013

It’s that time of year again – an exciting new session of the Motivarti Mentorship is afoot, ready to inspire a new batch of potential mentees! We have a great list of new and returning mentors ready for the fall, and we shall introduce them to you over the next month via our “Mentor of the Day” posts. Our previous semester resulted in fantastic new portfolio pieces for our mentees (check out a few samples below) and we can’t wait to share the rest of them with you! For those of you that are learning about our program for the first time – welcome!

The Motivarti Mentorship Program is a great opportunity for young artists to have one-on-one lessons from some of the best in the industry. It’s a fantastic way to give potential talent an opportunity they might not have access to on their own! One of our mentees, Domareen Fox told us, “As an 18 year old student stuck in a very rural part of the UK, I would sometimes question my future in such a competitive industry,” however thanks to her ten weeks of mentorship with Visual Development Artist Craig Elliott, “Craig has helped me see beyond that and has boosted my confidence to move ahead and not look back.”

We are so proud to see the growth of this mentorship program every session, and the growth of our mentees as well! Many of our mentees have recently gone on to internships and jobs after their experiences with Motivarti, such as:

Elsa Chang (mentee of Lorelay Bove) at Disney Feature Animation
Jennifer Ely (mentee of Kathy Altieri) at LAIKA
Ran Jing (mentee of Louie del Carmen) at Blue Sky Studios
Guillermo Martinez (mentee of Octavio Rodriguez) at LAIKA
Karina McBeth (mentee of Clio Chiang) at Disney Feature Animation
James Woods (mentee of Victoria Ying) at Disney Feature Animation
We are so proud of all of our mentees and look forward to seeing all of their future accomplishments!

Lastly, here are some tips to keep in mind!

– Treat applying for your mentor like you would a college, job or internship! Put a lot of thought and heart behind your essays and portfolio!

– Be sure to read about all of our mentors! You may find a perfect match with an artist you’ve previously never heard of! Make sure your potential mentor’s goals align with your needs.

– If you see someone you really like, apply for them! All of our mentors have busy schedules and are not always available for every session. You don’t want to miss out on such a great opportunity!

– Believe in yourself & apply! We often hear that people won’t apply because they believe they’re not good enough. You’ll never know unless you try!

If you’re still having doubts, Stephanie Stine (mentee of Octavio Rodriguez) a newly hired Storyboard Revisionist says, “Motivarti really does present an incredible opportunity for people wanting to spend quality one-on-one time with a professional working in the industry. It’s changed my life for the better and I am extremely grateful that I was chosen to be one of this term’s mentees! Thank you for everything!”

Applications for the Fall 2013 Motivarti Mentorship Program are now available and being accepted from JULY 1ST – JULY 24TH, 2013
