Mentor Preferences
Marcos’ area of expertise are in lighting and composition concepts for visual storytelling media (animation, graphic novel).

Ideal Mentee: Somebody that already has a certain knowledge of drawing and perspective so that when it comes to represent formal scenes on ‘paper’ (or digital) we can focus on the narrative part of things rather than getting cought on drawing issues. Also, somebody with a gut instinct for this media, interested in learning the theory but also in using it in a creative way, coming up with his/her own ways of applying it. Basically being capable of thinking outside the box when the situation requires. The techniques we will use are either digital / Cintiq, or brush / ink on paper.

10-week plan: I believe in the practical side of things, so as much as possible I would like the mentee to get as much artwork done as possible. I would base the sessions on the ideas I develop in my book ‘Framed Ink’ and, as in the book, I would start with still shots that would represent / transmit specific emotions to eventually go into developing a continuity in which lighting and composition would be essential to create certain moods, rythms and emotions.

Maximum Number of Mentees: 1

Maximum Distance: Regional (within California or the west coast); If mentee wished to communicate only through email I could go US or international as well, but I’m concerned about time difference otherwise.

Language(s): English, Spanish, Catalan

Preferred Meeting Times: Week nights after 7pm or maybe a Saturday morning as well (open to discussion).
