About Michael Casalino
Michael Casalino has been a professional artist for 13 years. He attended the Savannah College of Art and Design where he graduated with a BFA in Computer Animation. Initially worked at MTV in NYC on projects such as Celebrity Death Match and Helter Kelter, Michael then moved into the game industry and spent 8 years at EA-Tiburon. There he had key roles on many of the studio franchises. At EA, he pioneered new modeling techniques and processes for the environment modeling team on Superman Returns, Madden Football and NFL Street, and worked with a team for robust solutions on improving our in-game lighting for football stadiums. In 2008 Michael relocated to California to join Disney Interactive working on titles like Epic Mickey, Tron, Pirates and various other Disney IP. In June of 2011, he moved to Disney Mobile where my latest work includes the number one app, “Where’s My Water?”, “Temple Run-Brave” and “Cars AppMATes”. He has also been a guest speaker at Westwood College and SCAD, Lighting solutions he created was used at GDC 09-Lighting with Purpose, served as a adjunt professor for Westwood College and Sessions.edu and most recently the team on “Where’s My Water?” was awarded the 2012 Apple Design Award.
I am a well rounded art director/artist with strong overall art direction, character design/construction, graphic design, FX direction, cinematic direction, animation but my area of expertise in the gaming industry is environment design and lighting.
Ideal Mentee: My ideal mentee would be someone breaking into the games industry (or wanting too) that I can pass on my knowledge and be there for them to give advice on his/her work. I would want to help improve that artists work for the area of discipline they want to go into.
10-Week Plan: Really getting to know this person on a personal level and work with them from that point on with their work, portfolio, resume, presentation skills and help them grow in the 10 weeks.
