Robert Kondo joined Pixar Animation Studios in July of 2002, and his first project has been to work as sets art director for Disney·Pixar’s Ratatouille released in June 2007. Prior to Pixar, Robert worked as a sketch artist at a graphic design studio, Oblique Strategies, and Angel Studios, where he met Warren Nung and Steven Olds, respectively. He cites them as important influences in his professional career. Robert grew up in Hacienda Heights, California, and is an alumnus of the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, where he studied illustration and design with Norm Schureman. He currently lives in Oakland, California.
Little Know Tidbit: Robert is just beginning to bike again, he hasn’t since he was a kid. He is not a very talented musically, he’s learned from recent guitar lessons. Tennis is harder than it looks.
Robert hopes to meet someone who is hard working and open minded about their potential, and hopes to mentor by example, and find inspiration in the relationship that two artists can have. Robert would like this mentor/mentee relationship to be collaborative and would like to set the goals of the mentorship together. He would love to work on visual ideas that support a narrative, with a focus on strengthening concepts and ideas in painting and drawing through shape, color, composition, etc.
