About Thomas Scholes
Thomas Scholes is a Freelance Concept Artist based in Seattle, WA. Thomas believes art is the best means of discovery and delivery of emotional and experiential knowledge and is constantly searching for the means to provide enrichment in these areas. Previously in his career he’s worked in-house on Halo 4 with 343 Industries, GuildWars2 with ArenaNet and a variety of titles with Disney Interactive. Though deeply interested in the growth of digital art he remains passionate about the untapped potential of the interactive medium. Though Thomas hasn’t had formal schooling in the arts he’s benefited greatly from the online community and believes it’s important to give in return, as such he’s taught at a variety of workshops and events and has also been published in numerous anthology and tutorial books and magazines.
Thomas’ expertise lies in building and setting the mood of extraordinary environments and worlds.
Ideal Mentee: I’m open to beginners, intermediate and even advanced mentees but would prefer my mentees have an emphasis in environments. With Beginning Mentees, I can help most with Structure; methods and philosophy of learning, technique and fundamental design. With Intermediate Mentees, I can help most with Polish; pushing existing skills and aesthetics. With Advanced Mentees, I can help most with Diversity; introducing the newest digital technique, methods and process. I believe it’s vital for each mentee to drive the discussion to their interests, their current motivations or issues, whether general or specific. I prefer digital artists to traditional. Ideally each mentee would be able to invest time in-between each session in order to maximize their return. The more they put in, the more they get out.
10-week plan: Beginners: exercises and fundamental demonstrations Intermediate: critique and paint-overs, supplemental exercises. Advanced: demonstration, experimental methods and pure exploration of medium and process.
Maximum Number of Mentees: 2
Maximum Distance: International
Language(s): English only
Preferred Meeting Times: Sunday’s strongly preferred, some flexibility as necessary
