“Without the fundamentals, the fancy stuff won’t work.” – Randy Pausch
To apply animal drawing to imaginative illustration, design, and character art, it’s essential to first understand basic structure and anatomy, as well as spend time drawing animals from life. In this unique, 2-day intensive workshop, character designer and animal artist David Colman will cover the fundamentals of anatomy and drawing animals in motion. Day One will be on location at a museum, with a lecture and demo focusing on how to understand and then simplify the complexity of the skeleton, and identify anatomical landmarks. Day Two will be on-site at a different location, drawing live animals. There will be a lecture and demo on capturing the animal in motion, focusing on gesture and construction, as well as how to add personality and character to your drawings. Handouts will be provided; class size limited to 15 students to ensure individual attention. Both locations are in the Los Angeles area.
